Festival in Ląd

Cistercian and Slavic Culture Festival In Ląd on the Warta River

Ląd placed in the district of Słupca played a significant role in the history of Poland. From the 10th century, there was a castle here, which was a witness to the birth of our statehood and one of the most important centers of the monarchy of the first Piasts. At the end of the 12th century, thanks to the initiative and foundation of the prince Mieszko III Stary (1138-1202), a Cistercian monastery was established, one of the oldest abbeys of this congregation in our country. For many centuries, Ląd remained the center of development for political, economic, religious and cultural life. Two of its most important monuments, the fortified settlement at "Rydlowa Gora" and the Cistercian monastery, are now a testimony to the great history of this town and its connections with European culture. This fact inspired the cooperation of scientists, museologists, local government officials and local activists, which resulted in the initiative to organize annual Slavic and Cistercian culture festivals here. The purpose of these educational and cultural events is to remind the great history of Ląd and the achievements of the Middle Ages, the epoch in which the foundations of modern Europe were created. Individual editions of the festival, organized since 2005, are characterized by a careful selection of topics that enable them to get to know different aspects of life in the Middle Ages. Their essence is also the fact that in many points they refer to the problems of modern times, both when we talked about the achievements of Slavic and Cistercian culture ("We build the fortress and monastery in Ląd", 2005), the organization of medieval society ("Monks, warriors and farmers ", 2006), its mobility (" Pilgrimages and travels ", 2007), human relation to the natural environment (" People, forest and wolves ", 2008), women and men and their feelings (" Love, ladies and knights) ", 2009), missionary activity (" Missions, churches and monasteries ", 2010), difficult relations on the" own - alien "line (" Land, house and guests ", 2011) or power problems (" Kings and bishops ", 2012).

Important points of the festival program in Ląd include exhibitions, popular science lectures, concerts of early music or inspired by Slavic folklore, film screenings, theater performances, historical staging, presentations of old crafts and fights, and educational workshops for children and youth. They are attended by scientists, museum workers, artists and passionate past gathered in the framework of historical reenactment groups. Our events are an important event in the life of the inhabitants of Ląd and Powiat Słupski; they also attract thousands of tourists, history and archeology enthusiasts. After each edition, books with the texts of popular science lectures and short film reports on DVDs are published; the website was also launched. The main organizers of festivals in Ląd include: Słupecki District, Archeological Museum in Poznań, Lądek Commune, Zagórów Commune, Higher Spiritual Seminary of the Salesian Society in Ląd, "Nadwarciańska" Association, Landscape Parks of the Wielkopolska Region, Scientific Association of Polish Archaeologists and "Patrimonium" Foundation in Poznan.
